So the land was built, along with Walt’s dream of a tribute to every president, when the park opened October 1, 1971. The centerpiece would be the “Hall of Presidents,” an attraction that would pay tribute to every person who held the highest office in the country.īut other projects intervened, such as the 1964 New York World’s Fair and the purchase and announcement of Walt Disney World.īefore he passed away in 1966, much of the concept and preliminary design work for the attraction and land had been completed. Liberty Square was an idea by Walt Disney for a land at Disneyland way back in the early 1960s. It was originally supposed to be placed at Disneyland, but lack of room forced it to be put into the Florida theme park. It was originally conceived by Walt Disney, and much of the original concept work for the attraction was done while he was alive. The Hall of Presidents is the central attraction for Liberty Square in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The square is located to the left of the Central Plaza (the Hub) between Adventureland and Fantasyland. Take a step back in time to 1776, when independence was on the minds of many in the fledgling United States of America – that is what Liberty Square evokes at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
